Various Artists - Fault In Our Stars - Original Soundtrack From Motion Picture (Jade Vinyl) In the immortal words of Shakespeare, "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves." However, in the case of the Fault in Our Stars soundtrack, the fault lies in the lacklustre lineup of artists delivering lacklustre covers. The album kicks off with "All of the Stars" by Ed Sheeran, a song so saccharine it could induce a diabetic coma. Sheeran's trademark warbling vocals do little to elevate the track beyond mediocrity, leaving listeners yearning for something with a bit more bite. Things take a turn for the better with the inclusion of M83's "Wait", a hauntingly beautiful track that captures the bittersweet essence of the film. The shimmering synths and ethereal vocals create a sense of longing that is hard to shake. However, any goodwill earned by M83 is swiftly undone by the inclusion of Birdy's cover of "Not About Angels", a saccharine ballad that feels more like a toothache than a heartfelt confession of love. In conclusion, the Fault in Our Stars soundtrack is a mixed bag of hits and misses. While some tracks shine bright like stars in the night sky, others fall flat like a deflating balloon. Ultimately, it's a soundtrack that fails to live up to the emotional depth of the film it accompanies.
