The Holden Manz Semillon Reserve 2021 is a delightful wine from the Franschhoek Valley. I always look forward to tasting a new Semillon because the grape has all the required properties to get my juices flowing. It can often be fat and underwhelming, but Holden Manz have got this absolutely spot on. The nose is dominated by zested lemon and sweet mango, with a whiff of thyme and sage. The palate is unctuous, but lifted by an earthy spice, a lovely pure minerality and a cleansing acidity. A touch of toasty oak is very welcome. Located in the top, southern-most corner of the Franschhoek Valley, in the embrace of its spectacular mountains, the 22 hectare Holden Manz Wine Estate is situated between the Franschhoek River and Stony Brook at 300 meters above sea level. The Semillon is from a 20 year old plot of Franschhoek grown vines within sight of the ultra modern Holden Manz winery.
