Product Description

Japanese Blood Grass, or Imperata cylindrica ‘Red Baron’, is a striking ornamental grass that brings a fiery touch to any garden, no matter how small. This neat, compact grass thrives in a sunny location but also adapts well to semi-shade. Its long season of interest begins in spring, with bright green foliage that gradually develops vibrant red tips as the season unfolds, reaching its peak intensity during the summer.Whether showcased in pots or integrated into mixed borders, its upright, vivid foliage offers a superb structural contrast against mixed flowers or other ornamental grasses. This low-maintenance, deciduous grass is easy to cultivate, requiring only a spring trim. For an optimal start, pot up the plants and nurture them in frost-free conditions or a warm, sheltered area before transplanting them into beds, borders, or containers later in the spring. Water sparingly until the plants are fully rooted in their containers. Plant Japanese Blood Grass in moist, light, well-drained soil in full sun. Water as needed to prevent the soil from drying out.Imperata cylindrica ‘Red Baron’ is relatively hardy and can withstand a typical UK winter. However, in colder or more exposed regions, applying a thick layer of mulch will provide extra protection. Remove the foliage in autumn or spring.Position: Full Sun. Height: Reaches up to 40cm when fully established. Spread: Extends up to 40cm when fully established. Supplied as 1 x Imperata ‘Red Baron’ plant in a 9cm pot. Please note: Images are for illustrative purposes only, showing expected results upon maturity. Different growing conditions may lead to variations. The image may also illustrate the supply, but this can vary due to seasonal changes (e.g., deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months).
