Phragmites australis 'Variegata' (Marginal Aquatic)

Phragmites australis subsp. australis 'Variegatus' - not the catchiest of names, but a majestic marginal aquatic nonetheless! This splendid variegated form of the Common Reed produces stiff, upright stems of up to 3m or more, topped with feathery purple flower heads. The linear green foliage is striped with gold, turning russet brown in autumn. This handsome perennial forms spreading colonies of stems that offer superb habitat for wildlife. An excellent choice for a large pond or lake where it has room to spread. Height and spread: 3m (118).
