Product Description
Acorus calamus is a non-invasive rush that whilst strictly non-native, has been naturalised in the wild since the 17th century. This well behaved rhizomatous perennial forms slowly spreading clumps in shallow water or boggy ground, with flat, blade-like, fresh green foliage and clusters of arum-like flowers from May to July. The leaves have a sweet citrus smell when crushed. Acorus calamus is useful for creating natural sweeps of foliage to define pond edges as well as providing a hiding place for wildlife and pond creatures. It also acts as a natural water purifier, absorbing excess nutrients and helping to keep ponds clear by reducing algae.Ultimate height: 60cm to 90cm (24- 35in). Ultimate spread: 50cm to 100cm (20-39in).
