Darmera peltata (Marginal Aquatic)

With spring flowers, bold foliage through summer, plus autumn colour, Darmera peltata makes a wonderful bog plant or pond-side plant for the larger garden. In March/April it bursts into flower with spherical heads of pink blooms hovering on 60cm high stems. After flowering, clumps of big, glossy, umbrella-like leaves appear, each one up to 50cm in diameter. Come autumn, the leaves turn red – providing further seasonal interest. Adding sculptural drama to the water garden landscape, Darmera peltata makes an excellent alternative to Gunnera but is a more manageable size. RHS Award of Garden Merit.
