Mirabilis jalapa 'Broken Colours'

Also known as the 4 O’Clock or Tea Time Plant, Mirabilis jalapa ‘Broken Colours’ lights up late afternoons when it opens its lovely trumpet-shaped flowers. The blooms come in a dazzling mix of pink, red, rose, white, and yellow, all splashed or marbled in cerise-red, filling gardens and greenhouses with a rich vanilla fragrance that intensifies through the night.Demanding no special treatment, it quickly forms a bushy, flower-covered plant that keeps pumping out blooms from July until the first frosts. Almost bomb-proof once established, this exotic beauty forms an over-wintering tuber that grows bigger each year. Although it is often treated as an annual, the tubers can be overwintered outside in mild areas or brought into a frost-free position indoors before growth resumes in spring. Ultimate height and spread: 50cm to 70cm (20-27in).
