Chaenomeles x superba 'Nicoline'

Chaenomeles x superba. The scarlet red blooms of Nicoline appear in March and April, just as the glossy green foliage emerges. In autumn, the spiny stems bear edible, apple-like fruits, which are only edible when cooked. The Japanese quince, which is commonly grown as a wall shrub, is an excellent addition to wildlife gardens, providing nectar for pollinating insects and a dense, spiny cover for birds. This RHS AGM variety also works well as a free-standing shrub in mixed borders and along woodland edges. Height: 120 cm (48). Spread: 200cm (78).
