Product Description

A garden classic, Photinia Red Robin is prized for its vibrant scarlet young leaves in spring. The glossy new foliage and crimson stems provide a striking contrast against the mature green leaves beneath, creating an attractive two-tone effect. Rounded clusters of creamy white flowers complement the spring foliage. This popular evergreen shrub is incredibly versatile, ideal for adding a splash of spring colour to woodland areas and shrubberies, or as a low-maintenance specimen plant. Tolerant of hard pruning, it also makes a fantastic evergreen hedge. For best results, position in sun or partial shade, in moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soil. In areas prone to frost, plant near a warm wall or sheltered by other shrubs. Before planting, enrich the soil with well-rotted manure or garden compost. Plant at the same depth as it was in the nursery pot, backfill, and water thoroughly to settle the soil. Water regularly throughout the growing season until established. In spring, mulch the base of the plant with well-rotted manure or garden compost. Once established, it needs minimal care; simply remove any damaged stems and lightly trim to shape in summer after flowering. When grown as a hedge, trim up to three times a year, from late spring to mid-August.Position: Sun or Partial Shade. Height: Up to 4m. Spread: Up to 4m. Supplied in a 3.6-litre nursery pot.
