Product Description

Blackberry 'Reuben' is a truly remarkable variety, celebrated as the first primocane type to produce delectable, generously sized fruit on new growth. Simple to cultivate and exceptionally rewarding, its fruits can reach up to 4.5cm in length and weigh as much as 11g. A mature plant can yield up to seven 500g punnets of fruit. These impressive blackberries are delicious eaten fresh, straight from the plant, or incorporated into a variety of desserts. Boasting a sweetness rating of 11.5 on the Brix scale (compared to a sweet strawberry's 9.5), it's renowned for its outstanding flavour. As a primocane, it fruits on space-saving, upright canes during its first year, allowing you to enjoy harvests sooner after planting. Before planting, enrich the soil with plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost. Plant blackberry bushes in a sunny location with well-drained soil, spacing plants 90cm apart. Firm the soil around the plants and water thoroughly. Immediately after planting, prune primocane blackberries back to 30cm to encourage the production of more shoots. These varieties exhibit an upright growth habit and do not require support for their stems. Water regularly during the first year to ensure the blackberry plants become fully established. As the fruits develop, protect the crop from birds with netting. Harvest blackberries from August onwards.Position: Full sun. Height: Up to 2m when fully established. Spread: Up to 1.2m when fully established. Images are for guidance only and illustrate expected results upon maturity; differing growing conditions can affect results. Images may illustrate the product, but can vary due to seasonal changes (e.g. deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months).
