Product Description

The Pyracantha Red Column, a steadfast evergreen shrub, is also known as Firethorn. This hardy plant flourishes in almost any location, making it a dependable choice for gardens. Its dense, thorny branches render it ideal for hedging, and it can be trained against a wall to provide year-round verdant interest. This adaptable, upright shrub can reach heights of approximately 3m if left unpruned, but it is easily maintained at a smaller size through hard pruning. Its naturally tall, columnar form makes it well-suited for growing against buildings or as a standalone shrub. Alternatively, it can be cultivated into a secure and impenetrable hedge. In spring, the Pyracantha bursts forth with dense clusters of white flowers, which are a magnet for bees. These blooms give way to vibrant red berries, providing striking autumn colour and serving as a valuable food source for wild birds.Grow Pyracantha plants as individual shrubs or train them against walls and fences. Plant in any well-drained, reliably moist soil, in a sunny or partially shaded location, sheltered from cold, drying winds. Regularly feed and water until fully established. Prune free-standing shrubs in early spring, removing any damaged or poorly positioned shoots. For wall-trained shrubs, secure the main shoots to form the permanent framework, and prune unwanted shoots back to the main stem.Position: Full Sun/Partial Shade. Height: Up to 3m when fully established. Spread: Up to 2.5m when fully established. The images serve as guidance only and show the expected results of plants upon maturity. Different growing conditions can lead to varied results. Images are for illustration purposes and may vary according to seasonal changes (e.g. deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months).
