Gymnocladus dioica

Gymnocladus dioica stands sentinel in the landscape, commanding attention with its strong, columnar trunk and airy tiers of feathery foliage, making it one of the most elegant medium to large trees.  Huge, bipinnate foliage up to 100cm long, emerges with a pink-bronze flush before settling to fresh green and lighting up in glorious golden hues come autumn. Exceptionally tolerant—from drought to pollution, poor soil to road salt—it performs superbly in urban streetscapes, parks, and spacious gardens. Its white bloom on bare winter branches creates a bold silhouette through the coldest months. A fabulous specimen tree for larger landscapes. Ultimate height: 12m (29ft) to 17m (55ft).
