Product Description

Enjoy abundant harvests of sweet, juicy figs with the Thompson and Morgan Fig Brown Turkey Plant. This self-fertile variety produces flavourful fruits boasting deep red flesh beneath their distinctive brown skins. Featuring attractive, lobed foliage, this fig makes a striking focal point when fan-trained against a sunny wall or when grown in a container on your patio.Fruits emerge in spring and typically ripen from August to September, often taking around a year to fully develop. A second crop may appear in late summer; with protection, these fruits will ripen the following summer. For optimal growth, plant in a sheltered, sunny location using moisture-retentive, fertile, well-drained soil with a slightly alkaline pH. Enrich the planting hole with plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost. Container-grown plants benefit from repotting every two years.Water the plant regularly, especially during hot, dry spells. Feeding is minimal; a spring mulch of well-rotted manure or compost at the plant's base is generally sufficient. In colder regions, move container-grown plants to a frost-free location during winter to safeguard developing fruits and fruit-bearing shoot tips. For outdoor plants, protect them during severe weather by wrapping them in straw and hessian.Pruning requirements are minimal in subsequent years, mainly involving the removal of any damaged or misplaced shoots to maintain an open structure. Pinch prune new shoots back to 5 or 6 leaves during summer to encourage fruit formation. Please note: The foliage and sap can be harmful if ingested and may cause skin and eye irritation.Height: Up to 3m.Spread: Up to 4m.Position: Full Sun.Supplied in 9cm nursery pots.Images are for illustrative purposes only and represent expected results upon maturity. Different growing conditions may lead to varying outcomes. The image may illustrate supply, but variations occur due to seasonal changes and may not represent the exact variety received.
