Davidia involucrata var. vilmoriniana

This magnificent handkerchief tree was considered by its founder to be the most 'beautiful and interesting of all trees of the north temperature flora'. Davidia involucrate var. vilmoriniana is a medium size deciduous tree, with a broad oval to pyramid habit and scaly bark. Small, dark green flower clusters are subtended by a pair of creamy-white, ovate bracts, which are said to resemble dangling handkerchiefs.This handsome RHS AGM variety produces bright green, broadly ovate leaves, which often turn a beautiful yellow in autumn, and bears greenish-brown ovoid fruits after flowering.
