Known as Bracara Augusta in honor of the Roman Emperor Augustus, keeps its importance and legacy very present on remains and structure of the city center and surroundings. Guimarães, by it's turn, is the cradle of nationality. It was the battleground of our independence from the kingdom of León, and the birthplace of Afonso Henriques (our first king).
