Its a sonic archiveofa time when Natasha birthed her daughterDelphiearth side.Therecord weaves together ten song poems, documentingthepolarityofnavigating both an exterior world that was seemingly turning upside down, whilst also experiencingthe profoundlypersonal and transformational early momentsofmotheringDelphi, named aftertheGreek Oracle,theancient future teller.Themusic became Natashas sanctuary, born outofstolen trips tothestudio, where each track was improvised and completed in a few hours and chronologises her diary likeofferings over a periodoftwo years fromThe MidwivesHave Left to writing aLetter To My Daughterand alltheway through toWaking up,as well as a coverofher daughters favourite song,Home.Whilethestorytelling behind Bat For Lashes previous albums have traditionally used otherworldly narratives and female lead characters e.g. Laura, Daniel and TheBride, forthefirst time,TheDreamOfDelphi is about Natashas personal experienceofthe magicaland sometimes melancholy intimacyofearly motherhood. This record creates a more private formof mythology aroundthemusic than her previous work.TheDreamOfDelphitouches on moreofan instrumental Bat For Lashes world, and shows Natasha to be both a confident composer and craftswomanofintimate landscapes. Whilethemusic creates a more womblike, ambient space forthelistener, it still leaves ample room for her signature dreampop songwriting to vibrate through. Natasha has worked with Brad Oberhofer, Mary Lattimore and Jack Falby on this record.
