BUNNYGRUNT’s latest offering, Vol. 4, is a chaotic mix of light-hearted fun and off-kilter melodies that will either leave you tapping your feet or scratching your head in confusion. The St. Louis trio serves up a steaming plate of indie rock with a side of whimsy, blending elements of punk, pop, and garage to create a sound that is uniquely their own. Lead vocalist and guitarist Karen Ried’s quirky lyrics are both endearing and befuddling, tackling topics ranging from alien abductions to existential crises with equal parts wit and bewilderment. However, not all is rosy in the world of BUNNYGRUNT, as tracks like “Noise Complaint” veer dangerously close to self-indulgent cacophony. Overall, Vol. 4 is a mixed bag of delights and disappointments, a rollercoaster ride of emotions and sonic experimentation that will leave you both delighted and confused. BUNNYGRUNT may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for those willing to take a chance on this eccentric trio, the rewards are plentiful.
