This set contains a wide range of different charcoal sticks and artists' accessories. Natural sketching charcoal consists of carbonised lime (linden) or birch twigs, sorted according to diameter. It is very soft and dry. PITT charcoal sticks No. 11 74 00, -03 and -11 are very similar in character. To make charcoal pencils wood charcoal and clay are ground up with a binding agent, pressed into moulds, and fired in a kiln. Depending on the proportions, the results range from extra soft to extra hard. They leave a blacker mark than a natural sketching charcoal.
