Product Description
Get tickets here to dig up the past at the Corinium Museum! Unless you're a Roman expert, Corinium Dobunnorum isn't a name you'd probably be overly familiar with. You may know it better as Cirencester, a picturesque market town in the Cotswolds that's captured the hearts of locals and tourists for its pleasant scenery and quiet but charming nature. But there's a lot more to Cirencester than what meets the eye. It was once an imposing Roman town, fortified and protected to the max as it engulfed the Cotswolds in its shadow. Then Britannia's second largest town, Cornium Dobunnorum was one of the most important cities in the region once governed by the mighty force of Rome. This history is now encapsulated today in the Corinium Museum, for all to see. Explore epic Roman Ruins As you might've expected with a museum in a former Roman city, the Corinium holds an extensive and varied range of Roman artefacts. These range from the beautiful to the bizarre, so expect to see sculptures, inscriptions, coins and carvings as well as 2000-year-old combs, cockerel figurines and bronze statue fingertip fragments! If that wasn't enough, there's also a Roman mosaic collection that shows off an extensive range of designs and imagery that make for a wonderful insight into the culture and artistry that was prevalent within Roman Britain. Beyond Britannia at the Corinium Museum However, there's not just Roman history on display at the Corinium. There are pieces of history at the Corinium that predate recorded human history, such as a Bronze Age battle-axe, a Neolithic deer antler and an array of traditional items from all times of the prehistoric ages. You can also meet Rusty, the full skeleton of an Iron Age dog who's been brilliantly immortalised at the museum! You'll also find remains from the times of Anglo-Saxons, Middle Ages, Tudors and Victorians that provide an interesting insight into eras of past that are bound to captivate your imagination and wonder. Don't miss out on this day out worthy of the Caesar himself, head down to Gloucestershire and prepare to embark on an adventure to Roman Britannia that you won't forget in a hurry. Carpe Diem!
