Fantastic Eritrean restaurant on the high street in Middlesbrough. The injera was amazing and they served ice cold Ethiopian beer as well. The lady running the place was very kind and helpful, I would definitely recommend it if you're after a change from the usual chicken parmo/burger.

Tried this restaurant after google search and great review as I’m in the area but wanted something different than chicken parmesan/burger and chips. Did not disappoint. We had two lamb dishes (as per recommendation) not a fan of lamb but the dish doesn’t stink of lamb if you know what I mean? Cooked to perfection with overflowing spices and aroma, like a home cooked meal of your nanna. Soup of the idea (no idea what) but also very savoury. We said not too spicy and the food still tasted delicious. Great new experience as well as you have to eat barehand and tried “bread” that goes with the dishes. Will definitely come back to try their beef dishes.

Hiwot means 'Life'. The most amazing little place for a taste of Eritrean cuisine. Mary is absolutely charming and so lovely to explain the menu and the fresh food when prepared gives such a good aroma! Tummy growls as digestive juices get ready to get some food made with tradition and love. We had injera with chicken zigni, tsa'eda tisbi (lamb), lentils shiro and also tried their traditional coffee. We also did a takeaway of fuul zigni which was very tasty too! Thanks for the lovely food.

Excellent vegan food, very friendly staff! A real gem in Middlesbrough town centre! There’s a slight lip to get in for wheelchair users, but it’s not too bad!
