A part of Middlesbrough history. I can remember it, but with no antlers from my college days, walking from the Linthorpe pub to the Empire pub in the early 1980s . I loved having a google about the "Stag," originally called the "Golden Hind." The building was a family residence in the 1860s. In 1904, it was a Winterschladens wine and spirits, and the stag possibly dates from then. The original antlers were blown off from a WW2 air raid when it was painted black. The antlers were replaced in 1991 after staying antler-less since the war. It is so understated until you mention it, and then everyone knows exactly what and where you are on about.
