It's right on the edge of a housing estate, but there is parking just inside the gate There is very little signage, what there is doesn't tell a lot about the frankly very interesting history of the priory. Also several of the information boards were vandalised and so very hard to read. Irritatingly for someone who collects them, there is no English heritage guidebook to be found for this priory, which again means you have to try extra hard to discover the history.
Fantastic ruins on our doorstep, and will definitely return shame they don't have a centre to give more details but this is free so no excuses not to go, more signs needed to show what was what and how things were in the past
A step back in time. Enjoyed my visit. Access is easy. Plenty of carparking. Very close to the Pennine Trail.
Lovely little abbey, I really liked seeing the drainage system up close, it is really cool how they worked things. Some of the signs are damaged, some by sun and time, others vandalised. You cannot enter the administrative building.
Even though parts have sunken or fallen, we could still see where all the rooms were as there were information signs that gave us a view on how they predicted it would have looked like. I would suggest coming on a sunny day as most of the floor is grass but overall it was great!!
