I have been to a couple of exotic vets and this is by far the best one. One of my birds is disabled and I have complete confidence in the vets I see here especially Emma and Tom. They give me excellent advice and take the time to answer all of my questions in check-ups. A couple of years ago I have to have a budgies put to sleep and a different vet gave me a ink foot print and I am so glad I have it. Charlotte on reception has also always been lovely, prompt and very helpful, in-person and also by email.

The vets were great but the manager let them down massively. Apparently some animals are more important than others. I had called the emergency vets 3 times that week and had been told that the vet on call couldn't help as they weren't reptile specialists and to call the next morning. As my pet had deteriorated massively after treatment, I had to call the emergency vets again. I was told someone would call me back but no one did. The following day, I had a sit and wait appointment and asked to discuss the non-return of the call the previous night. The manager told me that it wasn't their job to return calls and if I was so worried I should have come in but they were too busy with an emergency that had paid for a consultation. The cost was not an issue - my objection was taking a sick reptile out in the cold for a 2 and half hour round trip if the vet on call was not a reptile vet, AGAIN. Sadly, my pet didn't make it, despite the vets' best efforts and a bill of almost £2000. Just a shame that the management didn't have an ounce of empathy, sympathy or care for worried owners. I would have happily paid for a consultation if I knew that a reptile vet would be there.

Fantastic vets. My parrot, Bacon, became very unwell on Tuesday morning. I live in Sheffield and out local avian vet didn’t have any availability to see him. Sarah at Holly House was able to see him at 2pm. When we got there he had deteriorated further and though Sarah couldn’t see anything immediately wrong she knew he wasn’t right and admitted him. On Wednesday morning I had a call from Tom, another of the vets, saying that Bacon had deteriorated further still and wasn’t responding to treatment. They advised euthanasia and we rushed to be with him. When I walked in the room Bacon perked up massively. Tom was astounded and agreed that he now wasn’t presenting as a bird who needed euthanasia. He agreed the best course of action was to take Bacon home and continue his medication at home. This morning (Thursday) Bacon is back to chatting and talking paying. He’s not out the woods yet but I think we’re over the worst of it. Thank you so much Sarah and Tom. Birds are notoriously hard to treat due to not presenting symptoms until it’s too late. But they pulled my boy through and I’m forever grateful.

Had to take my parrot to an avian vet. There wasn't one in my area. So I had to travel over an hour to Holly House Exotic Vets. They were really helpful and professional. My parrot had an overgrown bottom beak. Within 20 minutes, they had sedated, trimmed, and had her back around. No dramas.

had a very disappointing and distressing phone call with a member of staff who at answered the phone on 31st December 2025 at 14:31 at Holly House Exotics. I had seen a kind and professional avian vet on Monday 29th December regarding my poorly budgie, Lucy. The vet advised that if Lucy did not improve, she would need to be put to sleep very soon due to her quality of life. When I explained this situation to the receptionist who answered the phone today, I was told that the practice would be closed on Friday. I was shocked by this response, especially given the urgency and seriousness of the situation. Concerned, I then contacted Battle Flatts Veterinary Practice in Stamford Bridge, where I had previously been registered for many years when I lived in York. After explaining everything, their receptionist told me she had just spoken to Holly House Exotics and confirmed that they are, in fact, open on Friday. Because of this misinformation, I am now travelling from Leeds to Stamford Bridge to have my budgie put to sleep, which has been extremely upsetting and stressful at an already emotional time. Unfortunately, this interaction felt very unprofessional. I have also seen previous reviews mentioning similar issues about being incorrectly told the practice was closed, so this does not appear to be an isolated incident. Overall, my budgie was very poorly, and this situation was handled badly by a member of staff, adding unnecessary distress during a heartbreaking time.
