Super easy and fast, just nip in and put your number plate in the parking screen, it's free and simple. Clean toilets and decent cafe.
Like many others on here, I pulled in after a 7 hour drive to top my car up with 2 children... They on purpose put the payment sign behind the car at low level so you miss it completely. I then charge my car for 20 minutes and receive 100 pound fine through the door.. Such a shame as it now makes me want to not return to that charger or hotel, such a scam! You are using there facilities and being charged to do it.. it makes no sense at all sort it out telsa and holiday in! Its disgusting. Even if there was a pop up on your screen when navigating to it... I use chargers all over the country and have never heard such a thing.
This is a great charging station. Lots of bays and right off the main road, so no real detour required. There are signs all over the place about the need to register your vehicle (attached) although they imply you still have to make a payment (in my opinion) as the sign is generic, so you may have to pay at other places where this same sign is used. I asked at reception and they confirmed you do not have to pay to charge. You just type in your number plate at one of the stations in the hotel entrance area. You can use the toilets in the hotel (Holiday Inn) and they sell the usual stuff - coffee and sandwiches etc. They also have media rooms where you can watch TV, get a warm and I suppose charge your phone/laptop etc if required.
Nothing wrong with the charger but I got a fine for not registering my car at reception. It’s clearly a deliberate money grab, since the sign is placed at a point where you can’t realistically notice it as you’re coming off the busy roundabout, and there’s no sign anywhere near the chargers which is where you would put it if you actually wanted people to see it. The Holiday Inn branded warning signs in other peoples’ reviews have now been removed, which shows they’re deliberately trying to catch people out. Cost me £60 for not telepathically knowing I had to register at reception. Update: they’ve now put the warning signs back.
A convenient place to charge but there is often a short wait and frequently sharing power with another car on paired chargers. Remember to go inside and register your car (free and very easy) to avoid getting an expensive parking charge.
