St George's Church
Explore St George's Church, a historic Gothic revival building now a unique lecture theatre and accommodation for the University of Sheffield.
About
St George's Church stands as a remarkable landmark in Sheffield City Centre, originally constructed in 1825 as a Gothic revival church. After a period of disuse, this architecturally significant building was acquired by the University of Sheffield in 1994. It has since been thoughtfully repurposed to serve the university's academic needs, while carefully preserving much of its original ecclesiastical decor and historical plaques.
Today, the building functions primarily as a well-equipped lecture theatre, hosting various classes and academic events for university students. It also provides modern postgraduate accommodation within its historic walls, offering a unique living and learning environment. The venue maintains a solid 4.2/5 star Google rating, with visitors often praising its successful blend of historical preservation and contemporary utility. Its wheelchair accessible entrance ensures ease of access for all visitors.
Visiting Information

This church near Sheffield univer sity was taken over by the Univer sity and the hall was remodeled to lecture hall.various classes are functioning here and some post graduate accomodation also. Nice Place to visit.
Originally built in 1825, this Gothic revival Church was acquired by the University of Sheffield in 1994 after over a decade of disuse and neglect. The University fitted it out as a lecture theatre, along with some postgraduate accommodation too but kept much of the plaques and original church decorations inside. There is a live webcam on the peregrine falcon nest box on the 43m high bell tower, the feed of this can be seen via the website.
Well equipped lecture theatre. A bit dark and warm some times which makes concentrating hard if you're tired.
Best lecture theatre that is also a church in Sheffield, there is also a peregrine falcon nesting in the doorbell I mean bell tower
Nice lecture theatre in between the diamond and mappin. Student accommodation is also available on the other side
