We booked two nights at The Garrison in Sheffield but left after the first night, which is something we’ve never done before. The hotel is set up more like a roadside motel and overall feels very dark, dated, and neglected. Our room did not feel clean. The bathroom was the worst part, with visible mold growing inside the built-in shampoo dispensers. The central heating was not working, so we had to rely on a portable electric heater during the night just to stay warm. Noise travels easily through the walls, and we could hear movement and activity from the neighbouring rooms. The exterior area was also unappealing, with a mug and cigarette butts left sitting in a glass tray outside the bedrooms. The general atmosphere was tired and grim rather than welcoming. We honestly don’t understand the positive reviews online because they do not reflect the stay we experienced. Schitt’s Creek’s fictional motel would probably feel more cheerful by comparison. Thankfully we found another hotel in Sheffield city centre for our second night and had a much better stay. If you value cleanliness, warmth, and basic comfort, we would recommend staying elsewhere.
Sharing to all, an email that I’m sent to the manager of the venue. Who originally acknowledged the complaint on the 30th December 2025 but since this date has ignored follow ups to the complaint and clearly doesn’t have any compassion. I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with the venue, planning, service and the provided food during my family’s visit on 25/12/25 Christmas Day. On arrival we noticed the bar area was particularly cold and when we enquired about the heating we were informed this was a housekeeping issue but the restaurant area where we would be eating was heated and warm, No …. This was not the case throughout our time there . It was unpleasant and cold. My 90 year old Grandfather was very uncomfortable and extremely upset as were all of us! We sat with our coats on! My cousin had previously been into the restaurant area to place name cards at our planned table and discovered it had not been set correctly to the “planned” numbers for our party. There was 11 seats set and 14 of us. She was advised that we should “sit closer” on the original table and it was only after we refused to do this, that another table was acquired. The food was definitely not to the usual standard that we have experienced previously after attending over the last 4 years consecutively and not worth the £86.95 per head we had pre paid for. This situation has caused my family to have a very disappointing Christmas Day and we have made the decision not to return to your establishment.
We stayed here for one night - room only - and were happy with what we got for the price we paid (only around ÂŁ50!). The room felt clean and although very dated, we were pretty comfortable! It served the purpose for an overnight as we drove from south to north. No major complaints here!
We've stayed twice here. It's convenient as it's close to the city centre. It's a pub and a events venue so you can expect some noise. But it's full of character, history, and we have never had a bad experience.
Although having heard good reviews about The Garrison I can only comment on my recent experience. The food was tasteless, luke warm and served sporadically. Service was scarce, requiring two bar persons to serve, as one could only make the drinks having no experice on using the till. I can only put this down to all efforts being made to accommodate the Christmas party in the next room. Please, in future, don't take any bookings I have to other parts of the bar if you can only manage the party you are catering for.
