York Pride 2026 Set for Vibrant Celebration of Diversity on 30 May

Welcome to Yorkshire

Published on May 27th, 2026

The City of York Council is gearing up for a vibrant celebration of diversity at this year's York Pride, set to take place on Saturday, 30 May 2026. This annual event is not just a parade; it’s a moment for the community to come together, celebrate equality, and promote inclusion for all, especially for the LGBTQIA+ communities in York.

Council's Commitment to LGBTQIA+ Communities

The council has expressed its strong support for the LGBTQIA+ communities, highlighting its ongoing commitment to provide inclusive services throughout the year. Councillor Katie Lomas, who serves as the Executive Member for Finance, Performance, Major Projects, Human Rights, Equality, and Inclusion, shared her excitement about the event. She stated, “York Pride is a fantastic celebration that brings together residents and visitors to recognise and celebrate the diversity of our city.”

This sentiment reflects the council's dedication to ensuring that everyone in York, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, feels welcomed and safe. Councillor Lomas emphasised that York Pride is a moment of "visibility, solidarity, and joy," while also reminding attendees that there is still work to be done to achieve full equality.

What to Expect at York Pride

York Pride promises to be an engaging and lively event, with a variety of activities planned to entertain and inform attendees. The council will have a strong presence at the celebration, with teams ready to engage with residents and visitors alike. Here’s what people can look forward to:

  • Interactive Activities: Attendees can participate in various fun and informative activities designed to foster community engagement.

  • Information Stands: Council representatives will be on hand to share details about local services, community initiatives, and wellbeing support.

  • Health and Wellbeing Support: Experts will provide guidance on health-related matters, ensuring that everyone has access to the resources they need.

In previous years, the event has been a hub of connection, allowing residents to speak directly with council representatives and learn about fostering and adoption services, among others. This year, attendees can expect similar opportunities to interact with various council services.

Parking Arrangements for the Day

Those planning to attend York Pride should be aware of some temporary changes to parking arrangements on 30 May. To ensure the parade can pass safely through the city centre, particular Blue Badge parking areas will be affected:

  • The temporary barrier at Blake Street will close from 11:50 am until 12:45 pm.

  • The Goodramgate barrier will also be closed, coinciding with ongoing works in King’s Square.

During these times, Blue Badge holders can still park on Blake Street and Lendal, but parking will not be available in St Helen’s Square. However, Blue Badge parking will remain accessible on Duncombe Place, Piccadilly, and in the city centre car parks.

Encouragement for Community Participation

The City of York Council encourages everyone—whether part of the LGBTQIA+ community or an ally—to join in the celebrations and support local organisations. This year’s Pride event is an opportunity for residents to come together, show solidarity, and enjoy a festive atmosphere filled with joy and acceptance.
