•There is always a buzz when a much loved local pub shuts its doors for a makeover. You wonder what will change, if it will still feel like the same friendly place and when you can finally get back in for a pint. For people in Mirfield, that wait is now over.
The Pear Tree Inn has officially reopened after a major refurbishment on Monday 8 December 2025, following a significant investment from Punch Pubs and Co. The transformation is huge, and the pub now has a fresh new identity led by experienced publican Brett Watson Davies.

A new chapter for a Mirfield favourite
Brett Watson Davies has taken charge with a clear aim to restore the pub’s spirit and make it a warm, inclusive space for everyone. He wants the Pear Tree Inn to be a true community pub where families relax, friends gather and locals feel at home.
“I am so proud to be behind the reopening of this fantastic pub,” he said. “The community was desperate to see its return, and their excitement has been building throughout the investment process. The pub looks incredible and the new team is eager to restore the pub’s vibrant spirit.” The reopening is not just about fresh paint and new furniture. It is about bringing back a place that means something to Mirfield.
So what has changed inside and out?
A £400,000 investment means big improvements. The riverside garden has been completely updated with a new outdoor bar, a canopy for shelter, brand new seating and atmospheric festoon lighting. There is even a large outdoor screen for live sport, making it an ideal summertime hangout. Inside, the change is just as striking. The pub now features bold colours, patterned fabrics, indoor plants, upgraded decorative lighting and new artwork. The overall look is fresher, modern and welcoming. It feels like a proper destination pub while still maintaining the comfort and warmth people expect.
It is not just about the looks
A beautiful pub still needs a great food and drink offer. The Pear Tree Inn now stocks an impressive range including world lagers, spirits, wines, cocktails and a selection of well kept cask ales for traditionalists. The menu offers hearty pub classics such as pies, fish and chips and Sunday roasts, alongside smaller plates and bar snacks. The aim is to create a relaxed, family friendly atmosphere where everyone can find something they enjoy, whether they want a full meal or just a quick bite.
More than just a pub, it is a community hub
Brett and his team have plans to turn the pub into a lively entertainment spot for Kirklees. The venue is set to host regular events including quizzes, themed nights, live music and screenings of major sporting fixtures. “The community love what we have done with the pub,” Brett said.
“While there are many great pubs locally, none of them matched the spirit here and with our plans for entertainment, live sport and family friendly fun, we are confident the Pear Tree will be the go to place in Kirklees.” This focus on community and shared experiences is at the heart of the refurbishment.
The people making it happen
Behind the scenes, a new team is ready to welcome customers and rebuild the pub’s place in the community. Their work has been supported by Punch Pubs and Co, whose Operations Manager, Tony Iles, praised everyone involved. “One of the best parts of my role has always been matching the best pubs with the best people.
Brett and his team at the Pear Tree have definitely delivered. I am incredibly proud of the whole team for their hard work during the investment process. The pub has reopened in style and here is to a successful future.” With a brand new look, a strong team and a clear sense of purpose, the new era of the Pear Tree Inn is set to make a big mark on Mirfield.
