•If you love Irish folk music, here’s some good news: the legendary band Dervish is heading to Silsden Town Hall on Friday 25th April 2025. This isn’t just any folk band—Dervish has spent over 30 years bringing the heart of Irish music to audiences across the world. From Glastonbury to Rio de Janeiro, from the Great Wall of China to the White House, they’ve played everywhere. And now, they’re bringing their magic to Yorkshire.
This is a rare chance to experience a live performance filled with lightning-fast jigs, haunting ballads, and storytelling that’s straight from the soul of Ireland.

Who Are Dervish?
If you haven’t heard of Dervish before, let’s fix that. They’re one of Ireland’s most celebrated folk bands, famous for their incredible musicianship and their ability to carry Irish history through music. The BBC even gave them a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019, calling them “an icon of Irish music”.
The band is fronted by Cathy Jordan, whose voice is synonymous with Irish folk. Alongside her, you’ve got some of Ireland’s finest traditional musicians—each one a master of their craft. Together, they create a sound that’s both deeply authentic and incredibly powerful.
Why You Don’t Want to Miss This
Dervish isn’t just about music—it’s about transporting you to another place. When they play, you can almost feel the wild Atlantic wind and see the rolling green hills of Ireland. Their live shows are the kind that stay with you long after the last note fades.
Here’s what people say about them:
- “Dervish are simply brilliant… They carry Irish history with them.” – The Guardian
- “The most compelling, most soulful Irish traditional folk band playing today.” – News Journal (Delaware)
- “Capable of playing with note-perfect accuracy and perfect control at nearly supersonic levels.” – Irish Voice, New York
Oh, and did we mention? They’ve played on the same bill as James Brown, Sting, and even Iron Maiden. That’s how much of a global powerhouse they are.

A Bit of Irish History in Every Note
Dervish’s music is deeply rooted in the traditions of northwest Ireland, particularly Sligo and Leitrim. This area has inspired countless artists, including the Nobel Prize-winning poet W.B. Yeats. In fact, Dervish was even awarded the Freedom of Sligo City—an honour they share with Yeats, Michael Flatley, and Countess Markievicz.
The band started in 1989, when four of its members met playing informal sessions in Sligo’s pubs. They were later joined by Cathy Jordan and Tom Morrow, and together, they became the band that would go on to tour the world.
