A fantastic addition to the town and a nice piece of art, it's amazing how someone can put emotion into cold metal. The story behind it is that Sophia was jailed for 3 weeks in 1873 for steeling a loaf of bread. She spent it in the former prison that the statue now stands on. She was the youngest prisoner in the jails history after taking the bread in Whitby. Only a short walk from the market place.
