The Old Lodge

Had a lovely stay at the old lodge, it was nice to stay in a hotel with so much history. The food was great and we were able to get an evening meal on both nights. The whole place had been tastefully decorated for Christmas and the member of staff on reception when we arrived couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable. We met the new owners, who were keen to chat about our experience and tell us about their plans for the hotel.

The hotel and staff were amazing. Beth and Lindsay were lovely. They were very helpful and made our stay. We will definitely be coming back. The drinks price were very reasonable. The hotel is located a 5 minute walk from the centre making it a perfect place

Beth, the main person we dealt with, is a lovely, warm, professional rep- she treated us like royalty. The place is cool- and old carriage house for the castle that was dismantled hundreds of years ago when the two sisters couldn’t decide on how to split the property, so a judge ordered piece by piece disassembly and each sister received half of the stones/bricks. The facility is old school- dark wood and very historic. Dinner was good and we appreciated the included breakfast. It’s challenging updating such an old place, but would go a long way. The only big drawback is our room had wall to wall carpet- even around the toilet, shower, and sink. I suspect there is good reason, but seemed a wee bit odd. Nice furnishings and loved the bar. Easy walk to the train station, even with luggage.

This hotel is very very old. It's up for sale and needs a lot of work. Our room needed new carpets,floor levelling out and re painting. For my evening meal i had pasta cooked in a bowl,but the pasta at the top was still hard. We complained and didn't have to pay for it. The garden is beautiful.

We were just staying for one night but the room was amazing! The beds were super comfortable and staff was really friendly.
