The folly is on private land. A public bridleway passes near but to go to the tower base would, in theory, be trespass.

The Hartcliff Folly (or Tower) is a stone structure 1.2 miles (2 km) south-west of Penistone in South Yorkshire, England.The folly was built in 1856 by a linen merchant called Henry Richardson and stands at 1,175 feet (358 m) above sea level.Richardson also built Hartcliffe Lodge before becoming the first Mayor of the borough of Barnsley. Seen from most areas around Penistone hartcliff tower is at the top of the road it is named after, an amazing landmark unfortunate that it's not accessible, it makes for a good photograph

Lovely views around hartcliffe ,can see miles,great scenery and views over moors and Penistone also Stocksbridge , can go up Tower and take Photos used to play up there 50+ Years ago brings back your memories

Like many it seems, I've seen this from afar but never knew what it was / where to find it. Now I do and it looks great but it's on private land according to signs I'm the surrounding fields ☹️
