A peaceful and worshipful place. It is steeped in history and well worth a visit. The pictures don't do it justice. There is a lot about this churches links with Washington DC There is a superb folder giving a respectful account of the Parish's men killed in the first world war.

One of my favourite churches, the Church of St Peter and St Paul in Pickering is stunning and spiritual. The spire towers over the high street, and it has a fabulous wooden door that open quietly into the church itself. The stained glass is wonderful yet the main 'attraction' are the frescos on the upper walls of the church. These are just fantastic. Originally a Saxon Church, the Normans rebuilt it in the 11th Century. The frescos were covered over during the Reformation, and were eventually restored in the 1870s. There is also an effigy of a local knight dating from around 1344. It boggles my mind to think of all that incredible history that stretches back to Saxon times. Whether you have a religious belief or not, this church is just amazing. Thank you to everyone who helps take care of it.

Wonderful spot - offered us tea and cake and told us the history of the painted walls (including mural of Thomas Beckett!). We came away feeling inspired and as if all churches should be ran as this one is. We will be back!

Popped in one morning as we were on holiday in Pickering. We'd heard there were some recently unearthed medieval paintings on the walls there. Wow! They are absolutely stunning. Such an interesting church. We spoke to the very friendly vicar who was getting his church ready for Easter. The little graveyard surrounding the church is also interesting to look at too. There's a little leaflet you can take away about the history of the church, a small shop and a Visitors Book to sign.

This is a splendid, well cared for and well run parish church which is a must see place when visiting Pickering. The large porch is a wonderful place to sit and watch the comings and goings. I was very impressed with the tidy and informative notice boards, an excellent example to other churches. Inside are magnificent wall paintings. These medieval frescoes, completed over 500 years ago, are worthy of study and there is an informative illustrative booklet for purchase. There is a quiet area to light a candle, and to sit and pray. The best time to visit is when there is a service and details are provided about that. We shall certainly return when we are next on holiday here.
