One of the best bookshops we ve come across along with old pier book shop in Morecombe, Westwood in Sedbergh and the mighty bookends / bookcase in Carlisle. Very organised, tons of books, tidy, owner is very pleasant but heard on reviews he can stand his ground if you discuss authors and books! Cash only so was caught out as would ve spent alot more than did... There were 40+ books I'm wanting for my collection lists but couldn't get them due to this. Coming back asap armed with money to get said books if they're still there as they've got a high turn around. Hope this shop stays around for many more years to come, great shop!
Owner is a legend, prices are incredible and cheap. The owner knows all his books, is a very nice approachable person. Floor to ceiling books and has lots and lots. Go here before any other, he will beat any price by up to 90%
If anywhere was the inspiration for the tv series “black books” it’s absolutely this place, with one exception- the owner is definitely not as rude as Bernard black! Quaint little bookshop with mountains of second hand books all really reasonably priced. Cash only, so make sure you bring some (there is a cash machine in the co-op). Definitely worth a visit, even just to ask the owner where a book is (apparently can locate any stocked book in 1 minute, although I didn’t test this theory).
Gorgeous shop. The owner was wonderful. Been twice now. The second time I took a list and within moments he had found most of what I wanted. The shop is so atmospheric. Piles of second hand books everywhere and anywhere. Worth going to Pickering just to visit this shop
I went in here last month I had been previously and was happy, but this time. I haven’t been able to shake how god awful the owner is, he is patronising and pushy, made my partner so uncomfortable they ended up leaving the shop and then I just couldn’t stand being near this man as he was just a grouchy old man just made the experience worse I ended up leaving too. Won’t be going back
