|Wakefield Council is inviting visitor economy businessses to participate in the upcoming Light Up events across Wakefield, Castleford, and Pontefract. This is an incredible opportunity to engage with the local community and showcase your business.
About Light Up 2024 Events:


The Light Up events are an annual highlight, celebrating the start of the festive season with spectacular light displays, live performances, and vibrant markets. These events attract thousands of visitors, providing a unique platform for businesses to connect with a broad audience.
Wakefield Light Up
- Date: Friday 15th - Sunday 17th November 2024
- Time: 12pm - 8pm
- Location: Wakefield City Centre
- Highlights: Christmas lights switch-on, light trail, Christmas market, live music, and street food.
Castleford Light Up
- Date: Tuesday 19th November 2024
- Time: 12pm - 6pm
- Location: Castleford Town Centre
- Highlights: Christmas market, funfair rides, live performances, and a life-size snow globe experience.
Pontefract Light Up
- Date: Sunday 24th November 2024
- Time: 12pm - 6pm
- Location: Pontefract Town Centre
- Highlights: Christmas lights switch-on, large market, live entertainment, and a visit from the Haribo gold bear.
How you can get involved
Exhibit Your Business
We are offering event spaces to businesses interested in showcasing their products and services. This is a prime opportunity to increase brand visibility and engage directly with potential customers.
Market and Sell

Application Process
To apply, please complete the application form available on the Wakefield Council website. Ensure you provide a detailed description of your business and what you plan to offer at the event.
Key Requirements
- Public Liability Insurance: Minimum cover of £5 million.
- Risk Assessment: Detailed evaluation of potential risks.
- Supporting Information: Social media links or any additional details that highlight your business.
Important Dates
- Application Deadline: Friday 26th July 2024
- Notification of Success: By Friday 16th August 2024
