We are on a family holiday, and this is our very first time in Yorkshire Dales. We just visited Richmond town centre today, and parked here. Initially we didn't understand how the parking system works here, and saw some cards with meter-like numbers in other cars, and we were puzzled how to pay for the parking. Then I met a parking warden officer who explained how the disc works. It is free parking for up to 2 hours, and the system allows a nice free parking but at the same time monitors how long people park. You can get the disc from the warden officer or from the market hall, and turn the numbers to show when you arrive. We have never seen this kind of system before, but honestly this is a very good way of helping people. Brilliant! (I even kept the disc for a memory of being here.)
Beware, I parked in an area of the carpark where no signs were visible. It turns out you need to display a disc that you get from a local shop but this is not clear. This is a trap set by the council to make money from parking tickets.
Never thought I'd say I was confused by a car park before, but here we are! After finding a spot, it was almost impossible to understand how you pay. You're meant to get a pass, that you have to give back, from a local hall, which isn't clear in the slightest. It looked like about 50% of cars had a pass, maybe the locals? Hopefully we haven't got a ticket! Beware all 😂😂 it's beyond me why there isn't just a machine to use..
