Richmond Post Office

Can't quite put by finger on what is wrong here but the service 'feels' hostile and unfriendly, presented under a veneer of faux civility. There was no specific reason that triggered this feeling but the service grated with me and it was not just the service I received but witnessing the service of customers before me in the queue. I might just be overly sensitive but I found the customer service to be suboptimal as though customers were a bit of a nuisance. I was served by Kelly, who though not rude was detached and while outwardly polite just came across as being a bit rancorous with no warmth and made attempt to engage with customers. It did not help that all I needed to do was to drop off a parcel for which the postage had already been paid, for her to insist on weighting the parcel first! Clearly she thought I was trying to scam the post office! This post office goes to quite a bit of length to advertise the fact you are not allowed to take a dog inside. Fortunately, there were two of us, so my partner looked after our pooch while I went to drop off my parcel. With post offices becoming rarer I would have thought the operators wanted to attract and retain as many customers as possible and us the customer visit to sell up other merchandise. This does not appear to be the case at this post office and I won't be rushing back! Clean and tidy and I liked the idea of a robot vac that was on site. One oddity. They had a QR code to leave a review right in front of the counter. This is not ideally placed given someone would have to get out their phone while another customer was conducting their business at the counter. Might be better to place this on the way out!

Very disappointing that the PO is not open on Saturdays. No t everyone can get there during opening hours on weekdays and go to Reeth for services not available at the Gilling Road PO.

Disappointed that this post shop can't sell me an envelope with the postage costs in one service. All stationary are supplied by another outfit/store which require to you pay by cash. Very annoying and makes a longer task of a simple one. Please update your service to offer cashless and in one service. Very disappointed.

Went to the Post Office to try and post some letters today; firstly I was told they were large letter when all they needed was flattening which took half a second, then they told me they don't have any 2nd class stamps but would I like to spend a fortune more on some 1st class. I said I'd leave it and buy online then tried to buy some envelopes to be told the card machine doesn't work and do I have cash, which I never carry. She then got me to do a 'cash withdrawal' to pay for £1.99 worth of envelopes. We have also not received any post for 4 days then this morning received 31 items. Absolutely shocking service!

Excellent staff, friendly and very knowledgeable. Patient with any customers who struggle to understand issues and often provide advice well beyond what it is reasonable to expect. Richmond's very own "bureaucracy busters".
