Don't use the car park. It's run by Initial Parking who appear to have a long standing problem across its sites across the UK whereby the machine either doesn't offer an option to record your registration number or doesn't record it properly, resulting in fines when you leave which are upheld on appeal (surprise, surprise).
Got a parking fine for £60 if I pay early or £100 if its late but I still had 45 minutes left on my ticket, I appealed the ticket but got denied because I didn't enter my registration of my vehicle on the machine but it never even gave me that option. DO NOT PARK THERE
Avoid at all costs. Received a penalty notice despite having paid and displayed ticket. Currently appealing but clearly something wrong with their system. Never taking a chance here again
Recieved a fine - Wasn't asked at the machine for a reg number and i paid for parking for the duration. As others have said SCAM.
I have visited Ripley countless times through my 30+ years of living locally - for Sprite productions in the castle grounds, the Ripley Boar Hunt, Boars Head Sunday lunches, dropping by the butchers, I even had my first job as a waitress at the Ripley Tearooms. I will never visit again while the car park fines are so unjust. A year ago I visited with my two young children (one 3 months, one 2), paid for 3 hours parking, paid to go to the castle, the ice cream shop and the tearooms. We were 10 minutes late back to the car due to slow service at the tearooms, and I received a devastating £100 parking fine. After complaining to the Estate Manager - clearly I was well meaning having paid for a three hour stay - I was given compensatory vouchers to spend in the tearooms, but to be honest I was so rattled by the experience I haven't visited since - and most likely will never visit again. I've repeated the story so many times to fellow parents, out-of-town friends and relatives, and I have no doubt these charges will have massively detrimental effects on the whole village's economy.
