King William IV
About
Description
Known locally for decades as “The King Billy”, this is a modernised Edwardian community-led pub frequented by lovers of finely kept real ale – Cask Marque accredited, from a traditional cellar. The King Billy is for those eager for great company or simply time by yourself. There are splendid West Riding Brewery stained glass windows in the drinking lobby, a games room for pool and table tennis, a hidden beer garden for the summer and a roaring fire in winter.
With a large sporting following, especially rugby, five screens show Sky and BT sports channels. The pub hosts many local sports teams (including women’s soccer) and has music nights, including the ever popular Glastonbilly festival every August, when local musicians play for charity over two days.
It’s the “brewery tap” for Hambleton Brewery at nearby Melmerby, a changing selection of guest beers is always available and it’s a great place to start and finish a brewery tour. Hambleton Brewery is keen to support other local businesses, so food is not served, because there are many superb restaurants nearby. The King Billy welcomes those with take-aways to enjoy their meal with great beer.
Whether you are a resident or a visitor to the area, a very pleasant time to be had by all!
