I’m never a fan of leaving honest feedback on a restaurant that responds with sarcasm buuut we paid £33 for food that took a long time (totally understand there’s only one chap making food, but just let us know), we also got charged for two items instead of one - in fairness this couldn’t be rectified because we’d left and then looked at the bill, there’s food forgotten and brought at the end of the meal and the “grilled cheese on toast” (or lack there of) was the cherry on the cake. The interior and waitress were lovely but the food was disappointing.
We visited Manchega Tapas after exploring Fountains Abbey and it turned out to be a lovely find, just an 8–10 minute drive from the Fountains Abbey. The setting is warm & welcoming, with a real charm to it. We were looked after by Richard Hughes, the owner, along with some new staff. Richard greeted us personally & led us to the beautiful back yard seating area, which was cosy, relaxed & perfect for the evening. The staff were friendly & attentive and the food was definitely the star of the show. The grilled aroma and atmosphere instantly caught our attention, and each dish was full of flavour. Every plate felt balancing bold spices & textures in a way that really brought the ingredients to life. That said, we did find the portion sizes, especially for the mains, a bit on the smaller side. They were tasty, but not quite as filling as we’d hoped. We ended up ordering extra sides & tapas just to feel satisfied. A few additional touches to the mains could easily make the experience feel more complete. Overall though, the atmosphere, service, & quality of food made it a really enjoyable visit. It’s a brilliant spot to unwind after a day out, especially if you’re coming from Fountains Abbey or exploring the Ripon area. Would happily return to try more from the menu!
Amazing amazing amazing Been meaning to try this place for so long now and by chance we ended up coming here after a cancellation from another restaurant. Best thing that ever happened to us! Staff so very amazing, chatty, polite and really knowledgeable about the food. Had a fantastic tapas selection and definitely we’re not left hungry- and trust me - we r eaters! Not to mention food is locally sourced from around Yorkshire something us farmers can really appreciate! Had a great time and will be beck again soon.
An ordinary Friday night meal turned into a very special evening with the wide selection of tapas dishes on offer, sourced from local suppliers which were delicious. The atmosphere in the restaurant was warm and welcoming and the host especially attentive (but not intrusive). As the evening closed we felt like we were part of the "Manchego family" and will definitely visit again when we are next in Ripon. Thank you Richard for making the "trip down memory lane" for our 94 year old mother/friend a new memory to be treasured.
This restaurant is just wonderful. We took the tasting menu, which was plate after plate of exquisitely made tapas -- our collection included delicious pickled anchovies, cheesy croquettes, warm chorizo, the creamiest and crunchies almonds in Christendom, and amazing patatas bravas. The staff were amazingly friendly -- it honestly felt a little like we'd been going there for years. Thanks so much!
