Chimney Bank

A decent free car park for visiting the lime kilns or walking throughout the dale. Chimney bank is a very steep hill with twists and turns and often in passable in winter when approaching from Rosedale Abbey. A second carpark is a short distance further up hill, with some road parking available between the two. No facilities on site but picnic benches and information boards. The views and walks are well worth the visit. A good level walk is available on the old railway, it's cinder track making it good for push or wheel chairs.

A nice ride on the moors, there is a small parking area at the top of the bank where you can stop and look over the old iron stone Kilns, on a nice day it's a nice little area to take a sandwich and coffee with you and enjoy the view

Had a drive up here as we were on holiday in the area and it's reputed to be the steepest road in England so sounded interesting. We weren't disappointed, enjoyed the challenge of the drive up and great views when you get there.

Bit of a walk to get there but what a place and definitely worth it with the views from the old railway track just amazing. The weather for us was perfect (bright blue sky with no wind) I spent 40 years in the steel industry so this was a fascinating place for me.

Outstanding long range views of moors and valley. Great walking. Cool on a hot day. 1-3 road a test for the brakes!
