|Wondering what to do with the kids this half-term? If you're around Rotherham, you’re in luck! The team behind the popular kids' game show Blue Badge Bunch is bringing free workshops to Rotherham Libraries, giving children a chance to understand what life is like for people with disabilities—all through fun games.

What’s Blue Badge Bunch all about?
Created by comedian Benny Shakes—who has cerebral palsy—Blue Badge Bunch has been called the “disability Taskmaster.” Think of it like this: kids get to play hilarious, creative games that mirror the day-to-day experiences of people with disabilities. There’s ‘Below the Belt,’ where you draw with your feet, ‘Jamie’s Gamey’ that uses a speech aid, and even a BSL (British Sign Language) game where kids can learn signs and phrases.
This series of workshops, running from October 28 to 31, is open to everyone and lets kids play games straight from the show. Even better, they’ll get to design their own games, all while learning about inclusivity. Just turn up on the day or book by calling the libraries directly.
When and where are the workshops?
- Monday, 28th October: Swinton Library, 2-3pm
- Tuesday, 29th October: Wickersley Library, 2-3pm
- Wednesday, 30th October: Rawmarsh Library, 2-3pm
- Thursday, 31st October: Riverside Library, 2-3pm
Whether your kids are curious about learning or just want some unique half-term fun, Blue Badge Bunch promises a memorable time! For more fun family days out in Yorkshire, check out this list of outdoor family activities on Yorkshire.com.
Why Blue Badge Bunch?
Blue Badge Bunch isn’t just fun and games; it’s about changing how kids view disability. After touring the UK three times and winning awards, the show has grown a reputation for its unique and friendly approach. According to Benny Shakes, Blue Badge Bunch helps children see the challenges faced by people with disabilities, all while having a laugh. Benny explains that the show is essential because “there are still so many misconceptions around disability.”
The show has already won a Disability Champions Award in 2023 and was a crowd favourite at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. These workshops are a chance for local kids to interact, learn, and play alongside someone who can show them that disabilities are just one part of a person’s story. Plus, it’s all happening at local libraries, so it’s easy to reach.
