Good carrot cake but extremely overpriced for such a small size! Service is very slow with only 2 servers around who aren’t very attentive. Atmosphere felt stale and the tables/ chairs aren’t the most comfortable
Had lunch last Saturday for a couple in are 40's. Soup, cake and tea (all excellent on a chilli day). Nice environment and prompt pleasant service. Cost around £31 for 2, fair price. Better than the queue for the restaurant the floor below.
Had a very disappointing visit today. We arrived around 11.30 with the cafè moderately busy but still lots of available tables yet we were left waiting by the entrance without any of the staff acknowledging us. Once seated we weren't given any menus, just told to look at the specials boards on the wall. We ordered 2 coffees, the special "Hungarian mushroom" soup, freshly baked focaccia and some cake. The coffees were fine. The soup wasn't bad but I couldn't tell you what made it Hungarian and the bread served with it was unappealing. Neither of us felt the homemade focaccia was any good. Considering it cost £4.95 I wouldn't say it was value for money or particularly 'focaccia' like, at least not as good as focaccia I have eaten in the past. The cake I had was tasty and I did very much enjoy it. Generally I feel this cafe is overpriced and benefits from the fact that there is a steady stream of visitors at the salt Mills. The staff were not particularly attentive and people stood queuing despite there been plenty of free tables the whole time we were there. I wouldn't return again but instead find a different coffee shop in the local area.
Experience overall ok But pricey for what you get and a bit overstaf tbh May decide to come back one day
We waited to be seated, and waited for our order to be taken. We were charged £13.45 for two coffees and one cake. 25 minutes later, we gave up and I requested a refund. I was charged another £13.45. I pointed out that I now needed a refund of £26.90. The manager tried to charge me £26.60, changed it to £26.90, and left me £53.80 out of pocket. (this was finally refunded before we left). There were plenty of empty tables, and those that were not empty were occupied by people who also had no food or drink. Food was standing in the hotplate, the staff weren't busy, and the café wasn't busy. It could have been lovely but absolutely was not. This review is only for the café, not Salts Mill, which is amazing and well worth visiting.
