Looking good in the mid-winter sunshine, Ebenezer Church in Scarborough's Columbus Ravine was built in 1911 by local architect John Caleb Petch (1853-1921). Architectural historian Pevsner thought it would be 'just what Mr. Osbert Lancaster* would draw as the beau ideal of the Edwardian chapel'. *Lancaster was known for his cartoons in the British press & for his lifelong work to inform the general public about good buildings & architectural heritage.

Horrible people. This Halloween they held a party in their yard and cajoled passing trick or treaters inside. Under the pretense of joining in with the traditional Celtic holiday, they handed out goody bags of sweets to the children, inside of which were flyers telling the kids how horrible they were to be dressing up and trick or treating. These leaflets were clearly written so as to be understood by children and contained lies and a fear-mongering re-creating of history. How on earth can a festival that pre-dates christianity be in support of Satan anyway? If they had held this party and just told people "Hey, pop back anytime. We're always open on Sundays." They would have had a great, positive effect on the community. Instead they revealed themselves to be sneaky, cruel and two-faced. A very poor representation of the faith.
