Get a bar, put the sign "Donegal" behind the bar and you have an Irish Bar! Service was a little slow, the staff seemed to huddle in one corner. But one I got their attention the beer flowed and was well received. No real ale, but the Guinness was on good form and thick enough to retain the shamrock which the member of staff kindly made.

Stumbled across this little gem on the way back to our hotel from the Open Air Theatre, and so glad we did! There was a live guitarist / singer (Charlie??) who was absolutely brilliant and brought a real buzz to the bar. Everyone was up singing and dancing and it was a great atmosphere. Service was really good and staff friendly. Thanks for a great night!

McGinty's Irish Pub is "generically" Irish. Only one bartender/waitress speaks a little Gaeilge and lived in Northern Ireland. The others don't know what you're talking about. The signs on the wall advertise Harp and Murphy's Stout, but they don't know what those are either. They only have a few Irish whiskeys (Jameson, of course, and a few others) and Guinness on tap. No other Guinness like Hophouse 13 or 0.0. No other Irish brews like Smithwicks or Ciders like Bulmer's or Magner's. They have Strongbow. The place is nice and has various signage in Gaeilge and béarla. Currently, they have a local non-Irish trad group that plays Irish trad music at the weekends. Nice lads for sasannaigh. I think they should have more Irish beer options as well as whiskeys. But, they probably have to cater more to the Scarborough locals and tourists. And, I understand that. I was prepared to give this a bit of a lower rating, but they do seem to make the effort and try to make it a bit "more Irish" at night. During the day, they had pop American music playing and other than the appearance, it wasn't "Irish" in a lot of ways. In the evening they switched on the canned Irish music on the speakers and they had TG4 on the monitors for the GAA match. But, it was the All-Ireland Senior Football match from 2017 Mayo vs Dublin. Aye, this is June 2022. Ok, well, later in the evening the non-Irish live trad Irish music started and it was also ceart go leor. Closed session. But, at least the craic picked up a bit. The other Irish Pub in Scarborough is The Merchant and it's owned by a man from Gleann Chaisil, Co Mhaigh Eo (Glencastle). Comparatively, The New McGinty's is rather british and commercial. But, it seems very popular and a lot of people go there in the evenings. They have a door guard to keep out minors and trouble makers, but they're very friendly to customers. I recommend it as a nice place for a pint and a bit of music. Sure, nothing beats the real thing like Teac Bhillie's in Gortahork, Co. Donegal, Ireland with live trad sessions. And, I admit I'm a bit biased when it comes to such things. So, add salt as needed. Oh, one more thing. There is a picture of Paddy McGinty's Goat above the sign in the front. Mrs. Burke to her daughter said, "Listen, Mary Jane Who was the lad you were cuddling in the lane? He'd long wiry whiskers all hanging from his chin" "Twas only Paddy McGinty's goat, " she answered with a grin
