Mother Hubbards, Scarborough, England. I'd not had fish and chips in Scarborough for years! An opportunity arose, so off I went! Arriving at the bus station/railway station, I didn't fancy walking all the way down to the bottom and hunting one out down amongst the arcades, so decided to have a quick look online for decent ones, potentially off the beaten track. One of the closest and highest rated places, was Mother Hubbards. We sat down, got served relatively quickly and after a short wait, the food arrived. As usual, the order was the largest Haddock on offer, chips and curry sauce. One of the things with fish and chips, is that there's definitely not a guarantee when it comes to size. But as I've been told, size isn't everything. It's what you do with it that counts! Despite costing £18.50 plus £2 for curry sauce, this definitely wasn't the biggest portion I'd seen. However, I was prepared to overlook the size and enjoy my food. Cooked in beef dripping, the batter was crunchy on top, but had gone a little soggy underneath. There was no skin on this one. But the chunks of fish were of a decent size. The chips on the smaller side (smaller potatoes probably) and not too crunchy. But they were nice an soft inside. The colour was fairly decent too. The curry sauce was the sort I love with the little pieces of onion. But, it didn't have much flavour. I don't know why or how. A mixed bag. Which was a huge shame. 7.8/10
Amazing fish and chips! I truly say one of the best haddock in the town! So Delicious!!
My mate recommended this place and he wasn't wrong. we had the lunchtime specials £14.00 great value, hadock and chips with bread & butter, pot of tea. The best fish & chips in a long time. The restaurant is fantastic, plus the toilets were spotless 10/10 from me.
Came across Mother Hubbards by accident yesterday. Dogs are welcome and good range of gluten free options available. Staff very welcoming, best gluten free fish and chips 😋 - batter thin and crispy, lovely warm and comfortable ambiance. Would highly recommend to all my coeliac friends and everyone else.
Came here after a Google search for gluten and dairy free fish and chips and wasn't disappointed. Large freshly cooked portion of gluten free fish chips and mushy peas which was piping hot and delicious. Only slight disappointment was that the curry sauce wasn't gluten free, but there was a good selection of meals available . Staff were friendly and helpful, checking any questions they weren't sure about. A busy place with a mixture of local people and tourists, which is always a good sign
