I had a hysteroscopy under general anaesthetic at Scarborough Hospital in November 2025. Every single member of staff I encountered provided exceptional care. The staff on Haldane ward such as Rebecca, Martina and Emmanuel were brilliant and made me feel very welcome and relaxed before and after the op. The team in the waiting area for surgery were friendly and reassuring as were the team who gave me the general anaesthetic. Manzi in recovery was wonderful, I felt so reassured waking up from general anaesthetic to her effective care and lovely, warm manner. My surgeon Dr Haylock was absolutely outstanding, as were her team including Mohamed. They were very warm, professional, reassuring and explained everything very well. I had the absolute best surgery experience I could have hoped for and I’m very grateful to all the wonderful staff at Scarborough and particularly on Haldane ward.
Whenever you are in serious condition and planning to go to A&E, be prepared to wait long! This facility works 24 hours but, you will be waiting for atleast 6-8 hours before any doctor, nurse see you! This whole NHS system is doomed, and this hospital is not any exception. My wife and I had visited A&E for 4 different emergency occasions. Everytime had to wait. The highest was 10 hours, with no solid diagnosis. Some of the receptionist in the night were quite rude. I have seen patients with head injuries, broken limbs, bleeding nose, fractured hands, traumatised conditions, bleeding palms & knees waiting and suffering in pain. I have been denied an ambulance for a chest pain but I have seen drunk people and people high on drugs, getting served with ambulance with care, its an irony! It all comes to shortage of medical staff. I hope they hire more doctor/nurses to serve more people and reduce waiting times!
Was sent to A&E by my doctors with suspected back or kidney issues. Not been in a while and was really surprised by how clean, tidy and smart looking the new Emergency Area is. It’s comfy and spacious, very airy and colourful but not too much. The tidiness and clean crisp but calming atmosphere was present throughout everywhere I went whilst there. This is super important for everyone but especially for me being Autistic. I have to say the brightest stars were the staff- everyone from the cleaning staff, to doctors, to receptionist to nurses (and everyone else whose job titles I’m not sure of!) were kind, patient, understanding and attentive. Even when some patient’s behaviour was less than polite they remain positive and caring which is hard to do when someone is being awkward for want of a more polite word. I was there a while but this was because I was being well looked after; I was always asked how I was, if I needed help or had questions. I was always aware of what was happening and when. Chuck the doctor in A&E was great as I was quite overwhelmed by pain and the stress of hospital and he helped me calm down brilliantly. When on the Emergency Day Unit, Amanda, Katie and Evie were amazing - Evie even accompanied me to my imaging appointment so I wouldn’t get lost or overwhelmed. I have to say sorry to the other people who helped me as I have forgotten names, but honestly thanks everyone - you’re all stars and deserve a pay rise!
Genuinely the worst hospital I've ever been in. Admitted for an overdose of sertraline. I had most of the hunter criteria for Serotonin Syndrome. I was ignored by 6 nurses, the specialist doctor amd consultant. I could have died under their care. I dont think they knew what serotonin syndrome even was. Discharged despite barely being able to walk, the discharge nurses even said I was unfit for discharge. Medical negligence at its finest. Fix your hospital because that is absolutely criminal what you did. I now have a fear of hospitals as a whole. I regret ever calling 999 and would have rather risked my chances with dying at home since your staff did absolutely nothing. Oh and one of the nurses was incredibly insensitive about my needle phobia. If I could give negative stars I would. I would not wish Scarborough hospital on my worst enemy. FIX YOUR SYSTEM
What a great hospital, modern, clean and the staff were caring and professional, all the way from A&e reception team, nursing teams, radiology, doctor and consultant. We were on holiday and my son broke his arm but they treated us really well. Super hospital the people of Scarborough have a real asset in their community.
