I am very happy with my stay at Arran in Scarborough. The staff were extremely polite and helpful. The toilet and shower were shared but that wasn't an issue for me. The toilet was nearby and only shared with one other room. It was clean and tidy. My bedroom also had a sink which was handy. I would stay again.

I stayed with my autistic teenage son a few years back now but it has bugged me ever since. We paid for three nights but my son wasn't really enjoying it. The room itself was ok but the bathroom off the stairs was really not clean. I informed them we would be leaving a day early. No refund, which I wasn't expecting anyway, but what really annoyed me was they still kicked us out at 10am even though we had already paid for the whole of that next 24 hours. Shocking. Never again.

I decided on a last minute night away with my children, aged 10,8,6. I booked the last room available at the Arran the evening before travelling. Myself and the children stayed there last night under my name Jamie Hoyland, the lady on check-in was polite and helpful, although she did state no staff stayed on the premises at night which i found strange and a little unsettling incase there was an emergency. We were shown to our room on the top floor up many many very steep flights of stairs, i wouldn't recommend that room for children. The bathroom was one flight of stairs down and was a shared bathroom, one bath and one toilet...no sink...pretty gross when you can't wash your hands after using the toilet and neither has anyone else that's used it before you! The bathroom floor was uneven and coming up...i would also have rather a propper sanitary bin than the bins that were provided as i didn't feel comfortable using he pedal bins in a shared bathroom...but the worst is that there was NO LOCK ON THE DOOR!! I had too escort my children too the toilet and hold the door closed, and jam my foot up it whilst trying too pee hoping he elderly gentleman in the next room didn't burst in! Glad I only stayed one night as there is no way we could have bathed in there! The tea and coffee facilities were OK and latte glasses clean, my daughter asked for a drink but the glass cups were filthy with dust around the rims looked like they'd been sat like that ages, everyone probably does what I did and took one look and felt sick and put it back...staff go on thinking they're not been used and day by day they build more dust...she drank from my water bottle instead. Now for the worst part...the reason we had no sleep...our window was broken and the lock had fallen off!! It wouldn't close properly and the noise from the wind all night was awful, the curtains were blowing with the wind and you couldn't close them properly as the rail was filthy and old, we were freezing all night. That window is so unsafe, my children's single beds were right next too it! Please do not place children in that room again until it's fixed and safe to do so. The skirting boards throughout are filthy with dust and muck, I don't think it's seen a lick of paint in many years. The woman below me was collecting a spider in a pot off her clothes at 9pm last night on the landing, it's a shame as with a bit of love, a decent cleaner and a repair man it could be a lovely hotel. We didn't have breakfast so I can't comment on that. I didn't expect much at all for £60 but you expect it to be clean and safe! The gentleman that took my keys on the way out barely grumbled two words. The bedding didn't smell dirty but it definitely did not smell fresh. If my grandparents had of booked here they'd have walked straight back out. If you have OCD stay clear..my standards arent too high but gosh! The noise that window created all night though....I'm glad too be back in my own bed nice and warm and to get a peaceful nights sleep without sounded like I'm in a vortex! and my children are too! The only good thing was the WiFi worked and the tv. Staff please go and sleep in room 7 tonight and you will see exactly what I mean.

Very pleasant host. Cheap and cheerful Guesthouse clean and basic room with excellent breakfast and atmosphere. Everyone at the Arran were in Scarborough to see The Script including myself and my family. Value for money.
