To get to the room we had to go out of the main hotel into a conservatory which was freezing. Into a lift to 2nd floor. To get back to reception we decided to walk down the stairs. We go down 2 floors, only to find the only way back to reception was to get back in the lift. Then thinking ground floor would be G we pressed that button to then find that took us back to a bedroom floor. It turned out that you pressed floor 4. The buttons in the lift and floors were not in order. For an premier double room it was far from premier. The room was freezing, the wind howling through the windows. The "double bed" was 2 singles pushed together. Due to the windows draft the gap between the beds let the draft in. The room only had 3 sockets, but 5 items that could be plugged in. The heating was inadequate, one radiator didn't work there was an oil filled one that couldn't be moved closer to the beds. The other radiator went off around 8pm. The bathroom had a lovely whirlpool bath, which we both enjoyed. However my husband stubbed his toe on the corner, which had a sharp piece of the plastic missing. Resulting in his toe being cut. The WiFi cut in and out, not great if you've business calls etc over zoom. Free hotel WiFi that if you were lucky was 2 bars. TV remote had no battery cover, not even taped. Management came to ask us if we'd finished having a bath or shower. Husband stood in towel said we were. We were then told that the bath had flooded the room below and to not use it.
The Grand hotel was a very grand hotel way back. It showing its age now. The room was comfortable but the windows needed cleaning. We were on the lowest floor which is served by an ancient lift that could only take 3 people. This meant it often could not take both of us up to have our meals. The stairs crippled me. The food was adequate but often not very hot and poorly cooked. The staff are very helpful. Full marks to them.
Our visit to the grand hotel as part of a mystery tour was a really good stay We had read the comments and negative reviews but due to the nature of our break we could not change The stay at the Grand hotel was value for money with Caledonian, staff were amazing, food was nice although limited choices however cannot fault the quality of food The room was clean and clean bed was also well presented. Probably needs fresh lick of paint but really cannot complain. Bit of investment would have this hotel on top in the area.
Just came back from our midweek break. Once again really enjoyed the hotel, staff friendly and helpful from start to finish. Looked lovely decorated for Christmas. Breakfasts were delicious and the java lounge had a great atmosphere with sensibly priced drinks .onto the room ,nicely presented and equipped with a super sea and harbour view and sid our seagull friend. Thanks to the loyalty card scheme we can already save £50 on next year's stay .see you all this time next year many thanks
slow service checking in. Only 1 staff on reception desk. Shower in room was not up to standard. Went to reception and was given keys to go and check another room. This was much better so we moved into it and took other key back. Very happy with service. Evening meal was buffet service and was good value for money as we were on a Caledonian trip. Plenty of choice and was decent food. Breakfast was again plenty to choose from and quality food. No complaints from us.
