Come here every year dont believe all the reviews the hotel is lovely its a few hundred years old so u may find a creaking floorboard or a slightly cracked bit of paint but who cares!! This place is a jewel doesnt cost the earth to stay at and is central to everything in Scarborough!! Just enjoy the hotel the swimming pool is well run for slight charge and lovely lounge area!!
Shocking is the only place to begin, we came for dinner with Santa as a party of 7, there was no food on the hot plates and when they did bring fresh food out there was only enough to feed 3! All “fresh” food was cold, meat was rubbery and no puddings. The atmosphere was good, Santa was good but we will not be returning again next year.
Nothing to say bad really! Everything here is amazing though the bathroom is slanted in room 444... Amazing staircases though the whole place feels a bit jaded... But clean and well maintained. Showers are really cool and so is the swimming pool and spa.
Visited Scarborough a month ago to see a concert and raised a complaint with the Royal Hotel due to the poor quality of the room. Even after a month sending an email nobody from management can be bothered to respond to my emails. The hotel photos on booking.com are misguiding customers. The room was disgusting, dated, smells bad, clearly wasn't cleaned, with long hairs in the bath, mold around the bath and a mattress that as flat as a pancake. Absolutely disgusting. When you complain you're told to send an email to the hotel manager. They haven't responded within 21 days which is their, "so called", response time. This so called response time is just an excuse to delay the complaint. They clearly don't care about their customers. It's been over a month now and still no response. Save your money, don't bother using this hotel. It's very outdated and the quality of rooms is totally unacceptable. Especially when you're charged £114 for the night.
We stayed yesterday as a family for 1 night. Very good value and clean room. Location fantastic, few minutes walk to the beach. Rooms are dated, but to be expected, for the price it's well worth it. Only thing I can moan about is the carpets in the hallways needed a good hoover, but that doesn't effect the stay. We will be back.
